AFGHANISTAN: WAKHAN CORRIDOR

In one of the most remote regions of the vast Asian continent, dominated by the imposing mountain ranges of the Hindu Kush and the Pamir, a narrow strip of Afghan territory extends at high altitude between Tajikistan and Pakistan, reaching the border with Chinese Eastern Turkestan. The \u201cfinger of Afghanistan\u201d that touches the \u201croof of the world\u201d: the Wakhan Corridor! Once a busy and important route of the Silk Road, traveled and described by Marco Polo, the Wakhan Corridor was created in the late 19th century as a buffer zone in the geopolitical \u201cGreat Game\u201d between the Russian Empire and the British Empire. Today, as in the past, it remains a sparsely populated mountainous region, home to farmers and nomadic shepherds who maintain lifestyles unchanged for centuries. It will be a journey out of time, in one of the most isolated areas in the world, following in the footsteps of great explorers, adventurers, merchants, and spies, through a territory of immense charm and majestic natural beauty<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Not only the Wakhan Corridor: starting from Tajikistan, we will have the opportunity to discover its capital Dushanbe and cross the border into Afghanistan overland. On the way back to Kabul, we will enter the depths of the Hindu Kush, crossing the infamous Salang Tunnel. Finally, a taste of historic Kandahar, among mausoleums and bazaars, will complete the in-depth view of the northeastern region and the capital Kabul, an ancient capital that has always lived a troubled and complex reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Road trip on dirt or rough roads with a private driver, in an unstable territory not accustomed to tourism. Overnight stays are planned in guesthouses and tents with shared bathrooms, requiring adaptability. No particularly demanding trekking is included, but very long transfers are expected. For security reasons, the degree of autonomy in movements and visits is limited<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
