NIGERIA

We will journey through the many souls of this “African Giant,” among the remnants of ancient Muslim emirates, sacred forests where powerful deities are still worshipped, natural wonders, and ancestral Vodun rituals. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and one of its most dynamic, is home to around 250 ethnic groups and more than 500 languages, forming a complex crossroads of cultures that differ profoundly from one another. It is a land where rich traditions of the past coexist with rapidly expanding megacities, creating a fascinating intersection between history, modernity, spirituality, and everyday life. An authentic cross-section of life in the deep heart of Africa: a country of striking contrasts, immense cultural richness, and extraordinary historical depth.

The BHS touch

From north to south, through diverse landscapes, cultures, and spiritual traditions, we will explore the many layers of Nigeria. Starting in Kano, the country’s historic Muslim heartland, we will discover the beauty of its vibrant architecture before immersing ourselves in the spirituality and syncretic traditions linked to Vodun and other belief systems of the South. Finally, we will reach Makoko, the vast floating settlement that brings together fishing communities and ancestral traditions, in a place where ancient ways of life continue to exist alongside the overwhelming pace of modern Nigeria. A journey through a country of profound contrasts, where history, spirituality, resilience, and rapid urban transformation coexist side by side.
