MAURITANIA

In Mauritania, the human footprint is minimal, and it is the immensity of the Sahara Desert and the power of the Atlantic Ocean that set the rules. Our journey begins along the pristine shores of the Banc d’Arguin National Park, one of the world’s largest sanctuaries for migratory birds. From there, the legendary “desert train” will carry us deep into the heart of the Sahara, where, accompanied by our expert local team, we will cross endless dunes, sandy plains, and rocky landscapes by 4×4, completely disconnected from the outside world. Along the way, we will camp in historic caravan cities and hidden oases that seem almost miraculous.

The BHS touch

Very few tour operators venture into Mauritania. Only BHS offers an expedition aboard the legendary “Train du Désert,” covering the 400 km that separate the Atlantic coast from the mythical Saharan region of Adrar. We will spend 12 unforgettable hours aboard the open-air wagon of the world’s longest freight train, over 3 kilometers long and dedicated to transporting iron ore. An adventure unlike any other.

MAURITANIA

TYPE OF TRIP

4×4 expedition with local drivers through a remote territory largely untouched by tourism, dominated by desert landscapes and limited infrastructure. While the trip does not involve particular physical challenges, it requires a strong spirit of adaptation due to the many nights spent in tents and aboard the train, often without access to running water.

Afternoon: departure for Chinguetti, arriving in the late afternoon. Check-in and dinner at the hotel, followed by time to wander through the ancient streets of Chinguetti.
