PAKISTAN: KARAKORUM BY BEDFORD AND KALASH

One of the last great road trips on Earth, the Karakoram Highway is the highest paved international road in the world, winding through the towering 8,000-meter peaks of the Himalayas and linking Pakistan with China. After a stop at Wagah to witness the chaotic and theatrical flag ceremony on the Pakistan–India border, we will depart from vibrant Lahore, one of the most fascinating and charismatic cities in Asia, for an unforgettable overland adventure. Our route follows the historic Grand Trunk Road before crossing the breathtaking Swat Valley and eventually joining the legendary Karakoram Highway. This extraordinary expedition will lead us deep into the heart of some of the world’s highest mountain ranges. Along the way, we will reach the base camp of the legendary Nanga Parbat, where it feels as though we can almost touch the sky, before spending the night in tents facing the snow-covered walls of Rakaposhi. Finally, we will arrive at the remote Khunjerab Pass, the highest border crossing in the world at 4,634 meters, suspended between Pakistan and China.

KALASH UCHAL FESTIVAL Extension

One of the ultimate experiences for travelers passionate about cultures and traditions: the Kalash people and the Uchal Festival. After completing our journey along the Karakoram Highway, we will continue into the remote Kalash Valleys to discover one of the most fascinating and mysterious ethnic groups in the world, whose ancestral origins and ancient customs remain largely unknown. For two days, we will live side by side with the local communities, taking part in celebrations, traditional songs, dances, and ritual ceremonies held in gratitude for the recent harvest. It will be a rare opportunity to become fully immersed in the folklore, spirituality, and remarkably preserved traditions of the Kalash people.

*Scheduled only for the August departure

*Return scheduled 4 days later than the standard itinerary
